Also, it is hilarious to watch the rich Chinese wives - the taitais and second wives. It is not unusual for successful factory owners to have a "second wife" - another word for mistress. These can easily be identified with driving a BMW 3-series - preferably a white one, dressed in pink outfits paired with huge Gucci sunglasses and a baseball cap. The taitais however is the first and real wife. They come in Chanel bags, botoxed and stretched, and with a private chauffeur. Both types look beautiful and composed in their clothes.
However, neither type of wife have any intentions to actually sweat at the gym. They walk (slowly) on the thread mills and wouldn't dream of actually running. They sms a lot during the belly dance lesson, and they stop as soon as they feel muscle pain. The weight lifting machines are never touched - not to mention the ab crunchers. The only place some effort is made is in the yoga classes.
Their bodies therefore all look according to their efforts; saggy butts, breasts hanging off the visible ribs and bellies that more resemble bags than anything else - not to mention the extent of the bushes. OMG the bushes. I would think that as mistress you would make an extra effort - but no, there is long hair under the armpits, there is bushes almost reaching the belly buttons.
All this confuses me when it comes to the notion of beauty ideals. These ladies consume more time and resources than average western women on beauty and fashion. They read the same magazines, watch the same fashion shows and strive for the same skinny body image as most females in the west. These women spend more money on beauty treatments and makeup than most western women I have known or heard about.
Still, once the curtains of clothes and makeup are dropped, there is just fragile and gravity adjusted bodies - the same kind bodies that are the centre of our bad self esteem and negative body image.
Interesting, is it not?
